What do I use?

A year ago after 20 years on Wintel, I switched to Mac (I still have my Thinkpad). My few Mac friends, who consider themselves member of an oppressed minority group, look at me as if I have finally understood what the world is all about and I have difficulty explaining to them how much time I spend using Terminal window and that the greatest software ever written is Emacs a character based product. Mac gives me the power of Unix for serious work and, lets face it, a great user interface for my IPod.

How about this site?

This site consists of a few pages and any of the tools that I work with would have been overkill. I searched the web for a suitable weblog, which I consider an interesting approach to Web Content Management. I tried a number of them and finally settled on Movable type. I was attracted by their simple elegance and clean graphic design. This site was put up in less than a day. Time permitting making this site multilingual is my next priority.

All of this is being hosted at Infomaniak in Switzerland.

Who do I respect?

Richard Stallman for his vision, making GNU a reality.
Edward Tufte for his visual interpretation of data.
Philippe Greenspun the erudite über-geek.

What’s with Blackeyes?

My name in Turkish means black eyes. There are a number of references to black or dark eyes in popular culture, songs have been sung and films have been made. You will find Black eyes in Russian (Ochi Chernye), in Spanish (Ojos negros), and in Italian (oci ciornie).
